President Obama of USA said recently in Mumbai: "I saw new technologies and approaches that allow citizens to get information, or to fight corruption, monitor elections, find out whether their elected official is actually going to work, holding government accountable.":
We are seeing a phenomenal rise of corruption in public affairs - orchestrated in the recent CWG, 2G scam, etc. Corruption just in thousands and lakhs of rupees became crores, tens of crores, hundreds of crores, thousands of crores and now lakhs of crores!! It is reported lakhs of crores of value fake currency is in circulation in the country in the form of rs. 1,000 and rs. 500 denomination currency notes. The cost of essential commodities have gone up multi-fold. The gap between the haves and have-nots is widening. Money power and muscle power is ruling the roost.
In this connection, please see my recent comments on "Transparency and Accountability in Public Administration" telecast in NDTV-HINDU news channel at: http://www.youtube.com/user/ndtvhindu#p/u/13/4PiTICt-SZo
from 2.58 minute to 4.27 minute from the proceedings of the National Seminar on "Transparency and Accountability in Public Administration", conducted by Tamil Nadu Open University on Nov 09, 2010 at Chennai. Justice Gokula Krishnan, former Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court spoke of the need for transparency and accountability in the three arms of a democracy - legislative, executive and judiciary.
I would like to hear the views of others.
