Mumbai, 16 Nov '10: A week after Congress president Sonia Gandhi showed Ashokrao Chavan the door, the fate of two key functionaries associated with the former CM hangs in the balance. Indications are that the Democratic Front government could ask state information commissioner Ramanand Tiwari and state human rights commission member Subhash Lala to step down on moral grounds, in view of the allegations against them in the multi-crore Adarsh scam.

Tiwari's son Omkar is a member of Adarsh CHS and Lalas wife and daughter own flats in the building. The finger of suspicion is that Tiwari and Lala, both retired bureaucrats, misused their official position to further their interests when they were in the government. The development comes even as the CBI is close to filing a first information report to kickstart the unravelling of the Adarsh scam and the government is likely to ask the anti-corruption bureau (ACB) to step in.
