Fellow citizens,
Everyday, we read with growing concern that documentary evidence of the Adarsh scam is being wiped out. Everybody knows what the crime is, and who the criminals are, and yet no FIR is registered and no arrests are carried out.
What can we do? Let us demonstrate with giant signboards of 8 x 15 feet… or whatever sizes are thought suitable by individual demonstrators. Estimated cost of 8 x 15 foot signage is Rs 1,100 apiece. See the design here: http://tinyurl.com/Adarsh3
CAREFULLY READ & UNDERSTAND THIS: As required by law, we will only hold a protest in Azad Maidan. However, as printing these flex banners and mounting is costly in South Bombay, we will print and mount them in the suburbs. I trust that good numbers of you will be available for carrying these signages (in upright position naturally) to Azad Maidan by truck, tempo, pushcarts etc. As many of us will hopefully print this in a decentralized way in Andheri, Bandra, Ghatkopar, Thane etc, we can all meet at Azad Maidan. If they allow us to demonstrate, well and good… but if they don't, we will just have to carry our signages back home the way we came, that's all.
The police can object to our holding a demonstration, but can they forbid people from making FUTILE ATTEMPTS TO HOLD A DEMONSTRATION? At a time when every neighbourhood bristles with unlawful political signages, can any authority effectively forbid people from carrying signages of any description? These are questions that we should be asking. Also, they may forbid activity in a particular place or even on some particular days. But what if our futile attempts happen at different times on different days, scattered over several weeks? We activists are bad at coordinating, you know…
