It was nice to hear the glowing tributes by the President, Prime Minister, Finance Minister, Chairman Public Account Committee and the Comptroller and Auditor General on India, this morning at Vigyan Bhavan New Delhi, in a very well organized function.
There is impelling need for making the institution of C&AG more effective and remove the impediments for good governance and better utilisation of public funds. All speakers emphasized the need for tackling corruption and the emerging role of C&AG as an agency for improving public administration, for ensuring that financial outlays result in outcome
There is vast segment of public administration that is beyond the radar screen of C&AG, that can be tackled by "SOCIAL AUDIT" by citizens empowered by RTI Act. Recently, C&AG has agreed to include the findings of SOCIAL AUDIT in audit report/inspection reports. Finance Minister emphasized upon the importance of this recent initiative. More efforts are needed for improving the operational aspects.
