Not wanting to open the Pandora's Box again by allotting two sites to his party MLA M Narayanaswamy, Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa on Wednesday directed the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) to abort his allotment of a site under G-category to the legislator.

Accordingly, BDA Commissioner Bharat Lal Meena spiked the Bangarapet MLA's request for amalgamation of a 2,040 sq ft plot located next the 40'x60' site allotted to him recently in OMBR Layout.

The move comes in the backdrop of Bangalore Mirror report on Wednesday titled CM defies court, gives site to MLA which pointed out how the CM had awarded a site (number 5M-604) on June 9 under the G-category (discretionary quota) to Narayanaswamy, who got re-elected recently after crossing over to the BJP from the Congress. Narayanaswamy had submitted another petition stating that he also wanted the neighbouring plot (number 5M-606), which had already been allotted to a person named Sohail Sharief, given to him. Despite being aware of the fact that the site had been allotted to a person from the minority community, the CM issued a directive to the BDA to complete amalgamation.

But things changed following the BM report. The government decided not to take away the site allotted to Sohail Sharief. In a sudden turn of events, BDA Commissioner Meena recalled the file and shot down the MLA's request stating: "Allotted site cannot be cancelled." Since the CM had directed the BDA to issue a site of 50'x80' dimension, Meena suggested to his officials to propose an alternative site to the MLA.

In the meantime, the allotment raised many eyebrows in political circles. The BDA is said to have received more than two-dozen applications under the Right To Information (RTI) Act from various persons, several of them being supporters of politicians, seeking documents pertaining to Narayanaswamy's case. "If Narayanaswamy can be given two sites, why shouldn't we too approach the CM for another site," a BJP MLA from South Karnataka asked.
