True Believers

In a small town in the US, a person decided to open up his bar shop, which was right opposite an Indian temple.

The temple & its congregation started a campaign to block the bar from opening with petitions, when that did not yield any results, they went to the same temple and prayed daily against his business. Tonnes of "nariyals"(coconuts) were promised if by some miracle the bar didn't open

Meanwhile work progressed. However, when it was almost complete andtempleabout to open a few days later, a strong lightning struck the bar and it was burnt to the ground. The bar was in ruins and nothing was left of it.

The belief in the temple and the number of "mannats" (promises to offer something when a wish is fulfilled) rose geometrically, till the bar owner sued the temple authorities on the grounds that the temple through its congregation & prayers was ultimately responsible for the demise of his bar shop, either through their direct or indirect actions or means.

In its reply to the court, the temple vehemently denied all responsibility or any connection that their prayers were reasons for the bar shop's demise.

As the case made its way into court, the judge looked over the paperwork at the hearing and commented:

I don't know how I'm going to decide this case, but it appears from the paperwork, 'we have a bar owner who believes in the power of prayer and we have an entire temple and its devotees that don't.'

That's what India has become a nation of believers of convenience.

Fairy Tales:

This is another article sent in by a reader which re-enforces my belief that the current generation is a very mixed up one.

Why wouldn't they be, on one hand we now have sex education classeshanumanexplaining sex and child birth and on another we tell them Virgin Mary gave birth. On one hand we teach physics and Newtons laws and on another we have Hanuman flying with a whole mountain to rescue Laxman.

So what do you think the children make of this:

Tarzan lives half naked  vs- pull up your jeans above your butt crack

Cinderella comes back home at midnight  vs – girls need to be home before 11

Pinocchio lies all the time  vs – telling lies is bad

Aladdin is the king of thieves  vs – thieves need to be jailed not made kings ( a myth in todays India)

Batman drives at 320 KM/h – vs – responsible road manners

Sleeping Beauty is lazy – vs – study or you'll be a bum

and My personal favourite

Snow White lives with 7 guys that too without being married to any of them –vs- monogamous marriage and till death do you part

A long long way

Friends, yesterday my wife told me that I was blogging too much nowadays and if I wanted to write so much, perhaps the time has come for me to write the book which is inside me. (My lifelong ambition)

My life flashed back and I I thought about India, its citizens and how far we have come from my early days. Not many people will remember this but the first Indipatriot newsletter was written in 1999 during the hijack of IC 814 incident when I felt the outrage of an Indian who sees his minister escorting terrorists to freedom and the massive incidents of Govt. bungling that led to it.

The newsletter at that time had a small readership of approx 50 people and I wrote 2-3 articles after which it fizzled out. Life got in the way.

7 years later in 2006, I discovered blogging and picked up the pen again due to the outrage on the Alistair Perriera incident.

There have been a lot of brickbats and kudos on the way.  I have been vilified and praised. My parentage and fidelity of my mother has been called into question sometimes.

Today the readership has crossed 25,000 plus and people are actually reading the articles and responding. Sulekha has showcased my blog multiple times including the latest one.

Recently, I was in heaven when one reader told me he had configured his office mail server to forward my mails to all his office staff  and another told me he diligently forwarded my articles to his whole friends list the moment one of my articles arrived.

My moments of pride range from my personal experience article on drunk driving to an ironic one on phas gaye Obama to  a tough one like ticket to ride for which I had to study the whole Indian constitution. Its been a long long journey but well worth it.

The tinder is prepared and I feel the embers crackling, the flame is near my friends, the flame is very very near.

To each of my readers, who have been a part of these burning embers, thank you and Jai Hind !!

let me introduce myself:

I am an person of Indian origin residing in Mumbai who feels that the time has come to speak up or be silent forever. We all see movies like Rang De Basanti or Lage Raho Munnabhai and after walking out of theatre for the next couple of days the effect hangs like a halo around us. A few days later we go back to our old ways. This is my way of keeping the spirit of India alive.

As they say" 100 mein se 99% beimaan phir be India hai Mahaan"

My Mission Statement is:

A lot of people have written in asking why do I write these articles?

My answer is simple.

We meet loads of people everyday. When we stand around talking a lot of issues are discussed, what I hope and see happening is that the next time one of the readers starts a conversation on a topic I have written about, at least they will talk about it from a new viewpoint from the rest.

Which is why I talk about all aspects on life in India be it the Ram Setu Bridge or the Elections or maybe even the latest soap on TV.
