As stated previously as well, Institute for Research and Documentation in Social Sciences (IRDS), a Non-governmental organization from Lucknow, shall be presenting six IRDS awards for 2011 to young achievers respectively in the fields of Media and Journalism , Human Rights, Law and legal affairs, Medicine and Health, management and Government services. These awards are named respectively as Surendra Pratap Singh Award, Safdar Hashmi award, V N Shukla award, Anandi Bai Joshi award, Manjunath Shanmugam award and Satyendra Dubey award. There shall be no cash component associated with the award. The upper age limit for the awards has been fixed at 45 years. All the awards have been named after those prominent Indian personalities who died while still in the prime of their youth and who had a long promising career left ahead. Such personalities have been chosen with the hope that these awardees shall try to fulfill some of those left promises.
Surendra Pratap Singh was a journalist, news anchor, and newspaper editor who was not only the founder of Aaj Tak but is often regarded as the first true investigative journalist and is credited with having produced a host of fantastic journalists.
Safdar Hashmi was a playwright, actor and theorist, chiefly associated with secular values and associated culture who was brutally murdered in Delhi while performing a street play, Halla Bol.
V N Shukla was one of the leading experts of Constitutional law. He got his Ph D from London in 1952 but even before that he had written down the authoritative book "Constitution of India" in 1950, among the most respected books on the topic.
Anandibai Joshi was one of the first Indian women to have obtained a degree in modern medicine when despite great hardships and poor health she got the MD from University of Pennsylvania in USA in the end of 19th Century.
Manjunath Shanmugam was a Management graduate from IIM Lucknow who joined Indian Oil. He fought vehemently against corruption of Petrol Pump mafias and was brutally killed by some of them in Lakhimpur Khiri.
Satyendra Dubey was an engineering graduate from IIT Kanpur who served in National Highway Authority of India. He raised his voice against corruption in his department and got killed in the process.
The awards are open to all Indians and Non-Resident Indians who are 45 or below on 28th February 2011. Only individuals are eligible for the awards and not any society or organization. IRDS requests you all to kindly spread this message far and wide and to send suitable proposals to it at IRDS, 5/426, Viram Khand, Gomti Nagar, Lucknow or at irdslucknow@gmail.com. The last date for receiving the nomination/ proposition is 28th February, 2011 while the awards shall be announced on 10th March 2011.
गैर सरकारी संगठन इंस्टीट्यूट फॉर रिसर्च एण्ड डाक्यूमेटेशन इन सोशल साइन्सेंस (आईआरडीएस), लखनऊ द्वारा वर्ष 2011 के लिये छह क्षेत्रों में युवा हस्ताक्षरों को आईआरडीएस अवार्ड प्रदान किये जायेंगे. ये क्षेत्र हैं- पत्रकारिता, मानव अधिकार, विधि एवं न्याय, चिकित्सा तथा स्वास्थ्य, प्रबंधन तथा शासकीय सेवा. इन क्षेत्रों में दिये जाने वाले पुरस्कार हैं- सुरेन्द्र प्रताप सिंह पुरस्कार, सफदर हाशमी पुरस्कार, वी एन शुक्ला पुरस्कार, आनंदी बाई जोशी पुरस्कार, मंजुनाथ शंमुगम पुरस्कार तथा सत्येन्द्र दुबे पुरस्कार. इन पुरस्कारों के साथ किसी प्रकार की धनराशि संबद्ध नहीं होगी. इन पुरस्कारों हेतु अधिकतम आयु 45 साल निर्धारित की गयी है. ये सारे व्यक्ति ऐसे थे जिनकी मृत्यु अल्प अवस्था में ही तब हो गयी थी जब वे अपने कार्यों के चोटी पर थे और उनसे अभी बहुत कुछ अपेक्षित था. ये पुरस्कार इसी आशा तथा विश्वास के साथ प्रदान किये जायेंगे कि ये पुरस्कृत लोग इन महान् व्यक्तियों की बीच में ही टूट गयी संभवनाओं को पूरा करेंगे.
सुरेन्द्र प्रताप सिंह एक प्रमुख संपादक तथा ब्रोडकास्टर थे जिन्होंने न सिर्फ आजतक न्यूज चैनल की स्थापना की वरन् जो बहुधा सच्चे आधुनिक भारतीय खोजी पत्रकारिता के जनक माने जाते हैं. उन्हें अपने विचारों से आप्लावित कई सारे पत्रकारों को खोजने का श्रेय भी जाता है.
सफदर हाशमी एक नाट्य कलाकार, निर्देशक तथा विचारक थे जो जीवनपर्यन्त सच्चे धर्मनिरपेक्षता के लिये संघर्ष करते रहे और अपने प्राण भी इन्हीं उद्देश्यों के लिये अर्पित कर दिया जब हल्ला बोल नुक्कड़ नाटक के समय उनकी हत्या कर दी गयी।
वी एन शुक्ल एक प्रसिद्ध न्यायविद थे जिन्होंने 1952 में इंग्लैंड से पी.एचडी० करने से पूर्व ही 1950 में भारत का संविधान" पुस्तक लिख दी थी जो इस क्षेत्र के प्रथम तथा सर्वप्रतिष्ठित पुस्तकों में से है।
आनंदी बाई जोशी भारत की प्रथम आधुनिक महिला डाक्टरों में थीं जिन्होंने 19 वर्ष की अवस्था में अमेरिका जा कर कठिन परिस्थितियों में खराब स्वास्थ्य के बावजूद एम०डी० की उपाधि अर्जित की थी।
मंजुनाथ शंमुगम आईआईएम लखनऊ के एक मैनेजमेंट ग्रेजुएट थे जो इंडियन आयल में कार्यरत थे. वहाँ उन्होंने पेट्रोल पम्प माफियाओं से संघर्ष किया और इसी प्रक्रिया में उनकी हत्या कर दी गयी थी.
सत्येन्द्र दुबे आईआईटी कानपुर के इंजीनियरिंग ग्रेजुएट थे जो नेशनल हाईवे ऑथोरिटी ऑफ इंडिया में काम करते थे. उन्होंने अपने विभाग में व्याप्त भ्रष्टाचार को उजागर किया और इसी दौरान ऐसे लोगों ने मिल कर उन्हें मार डाला.
ये पुरस्कार सभी भारतीयों तथा उन सभी अप्रवासी भारतीयों के लिये हैं जिन्होंने भारत अथवा भारतीय मूल के लोगों के मध्य उल्लेखनीय कार्य किये हों तथा जिनकी आयु 28 फरवरी 2011 को 45 वर्ष से कम हो। पुरस्कार व्यक्ति विशेष के लिये ही हैं किसी संस्था अथवा संगठन के लिये नहीं। हम आप सभी लोगों से यह निवेदन करते हैं कि वे इस हेतु उचित नाम तथा जानकारियॉ भेज कर हमारा सहयाग करें। ये नाम तथा जानकारियॉ हमारे पते डॉ नूतन ठाकुर, आई०आर०डी०एस०, 5/426, विराम खण्ड, गोमती नगर, लखनऊ या ईमेल irdslucknow@gmail.com पर भेजें। सूचना भेजे जाने की अंतिम तिथि 28 फरवरी 2011 है तथा पुरस्कारों की घोषणा 10 मार्च 2011 को की जायेगी।
