Govt. Appoints Corrupt P.J. Thomas as CVC Chief; Supreme Court Not Impressed
http://www.newspostindia.com/2010-11-22-govt-appoints-corrupt-p-j-thomas-as-cvc-chief-supreme-court-not-impressed
Government today placed the file relating to the appointment of P J Thomas as
the Chief Vigilance Commissioner in the Supreme Court, which questioned as tohow
he would function in the post in view of a pending criminal case against
him."Without looking into the file, we are concerned that if aperson is an
accused in a criminal case how will he function as CVC,"a bench headed by Chief
Justice S H Kapadia observed after Attorney General G E Vahanvati placed the
file in a sealed cover.
Sonia Gandhi & Mr. Clean appoints 'corrupt' PJ Thomas
It looks as if the Congress party headedSonia Gandhi is on a warpath to promote
corruptionin a big way.
If not then how would one explain appointment of a person by name PJ Thomas as
the Chief Vigilance Commissioner on India!
Chief Vigilance Commissioner PJ Thomas would deal with the corruption cases in
India but ironically he himself was involved in a corruption case (palmolein
export scam)! And he was the one who was the secretary of the telecom ministry
when ex-minister A. Raja looted India of 1.76 lakh crores!
The Supreme Court today also slammed the UPA government led by Manmohan Singh
and Sonia Gandhi over this appointment.
And not surprisingly, the Sonia Gandhi led UPAsupported his appointment and the
Attorney General GE Vahanvati even went to the extent of saying that the SC
should not dictate terms to the government!
It looks as if Sonia Gandhi wants a 'friendly' corrupt officer as the CVC so
that the people like Suresh Kalmadi, A. Raja etc are let off easily! This is
another blow to Sonia Gandhi's Congress. Their new motto seems to be 'the more
the corruption the more the merrier'!
Supreme Court questions CVC's monitoring of 2G probe
TheSupreme Court on Tuesday virtually questioned the tenability of Chief
Vigilance Commissioner P. J. Thomas supervising the CBI's investigations into
the 2G spectrum scandal as he himself was Telecom Secretary at the relevant
point of time.
A bench of justices G. S. Singhvi and Ashok Kumar Ganguly pointed out that since
the CBI functions under the over all supervision of the CVC it would be
difficult for Mr. Thomas to objectively monitor the investigations.
"CBI is functioning under the CVC, at that time he (Thomas) was functioning as
Telecom Secretary. It would be difficult for him to objectively monitor."
"He had justified the action which are being subject to scrutiny by this court
and CBI. It would be difficult for him to objectively supervise." the bench
observed.
