Like other BJP states, Madhya Pradesh has started to become business
friendly. State government is getting into gear to charm companies. Every state
should learn from Narendra Modi's sincerity and drive to bring prosperity to
their homke state. A clean and disciplined government can provide the push.
Outsiders run away from redtape and corruption. A RSS worker Modi has put
Gujarat on a flying machine. Join Modi if you want to fly.

 The global Bhopal
 December 26, 2010   8:25:59 AM

What is the difference in today's Bhopal and its inhabitants and a city that it
was a few years back and people who would live here? Today's Bhopal has ample of
employment opportunities and its residents are becoming more and more
professional and skilled in all respect. A plethora of call centres and BPOs are
coming up in the city who are not only providing the youngsters with a good job,
but also giving them training to give a tough fight to the competition. KUNDAN
 PANDEY reports

Globalisation is beginning to impact every aspect of the city lifestyle; little
wonder then that slow, steady and sometimes even reluctant changes are visible
in everything from language, dress, beverage, social fabric and even job
 preferences.

Earlier, Bhopalis solely focused on traditional occupations like Government
employment or personal entrepreneurship. But with the arrival of the winds of
change in the city all that is a thing of the past.

One of the fastest growing cities in the country, Bhopal today is home to
several call centres and BPO organisations that offer new age employment options
and fresh hope to educated and trained graduates and undergraduates.

Some of these organisations offer excellent prospects to those willing to shed
their career inhibitions and opt for a new age employment that initially may
even see them struggle to match up to global benchmarks but virtually guarantees
some brilliant returns in the long run.

Head of city-based VASK Engineering, Ajay Narang informs that the State capital
has abundant human resources due to the ever-increasing number of engineering
colleges and other educational institutes in the city.

"Our focus is to help enhance the skills of our employees and bring them up to
match our organisational standards so that they can realise the full impact of
technology and knowledge and also the modern facilities," he says.

Speaking of the reasons that prompted him to set up his business in the city and
not any metropolitan centre, Narang says the vibrant human resource pool and the
opportunity to build mutually beneficial relations with employees were the two
major reasons that clinched the decision in favour of Bhopal.

With an unmistakable hint of pride in his voice, he informs that his company
works for Florida-based GDKN Corporation, an organisation with diversified
interests in several segments, including the recession-free power sector, which
has ensured a bright future for both the company as well as its employees.

"Apart from providing vocal assistance to GDKN Corporation, we also process
applications on their behalf," he adds.

While most call centres hire fresh trainable graduates as 'Associates', those
with a one or two year experience in the industry can be placed as Team Leaders
or Pricess Managers, based on a candidate's skill set and track record.

The best call centres in the city provide their employees with ample growth
opportunities and opportunities to sharpen their skills through in-house
trainings, apart from a plethora of activities for fun and entertainment to
motivate them and to maintain the highest performance standards, required in a
 fiercely competitive field.

Industry insiders say career enrichment programmes are a must to retain good
employees in any industry and the trend is relentlessly pursued by the call
centre or BPO industry that has high attrition rates, due to high pressure work
situations and also the toll such work takes on the social life of a young
 employee.

Other employee retention programmes include timely promotions, appraisals and
wage revisions and also skill enhancement trainings concur the industry pundits.

Call centre employee Hitesh Verma says not many youngsters opt for traditional
jobs these days, as the sunrise sectors offer tremendous growth prospect in a
 much shorter span of time.

"Good Government jobs demand patience and hard work, but we can find equally
good employment without much effort and moreover, no one has the time and
patience to wait for a Government job that sometimes even amounts to placing all
eggs in one basket. Not a very sensible thing, considering the sea of aspirants
who respond to every Government advertisement in the newspapers."

He adds that the roadmap to finding a meaningful call centre job in Bhopal
begins with an analysis of one's own skills and moves on to training to bridge
skill or knowledge gaps before firing off an application that stands out among
 the rest.

A neutral accent and exposure to public speaking and a friendly disposition are
some of the most sought after qualities in this industry, he adds and prescribes
young aspirants to join a professional training institute to polish these
 skills.

Job aspirant Ajay Kushwaha says Bhopal has several top of the line institutes
that help enhance interview skills, telephone etiquettes and also customer
service basics. But some other skills that one needs to focus on individually
are public speaking, voice modulation, image management and personality
 development.

The highly energetic lad says the serious aspirants should join the best public
speaking and voice modulation-training institute before applying for a call
centre or a BPO job, as the time and money invested in the training is sure to
stand the candidate in good stead at the interview.

Notably, most call centres have a candidate undergo a written test, group
discussion and a personal interaction before making an offer to a suitable
 candidate.

The call centres currently working out of Bhopal include Care Soft Inc, Surevin,
XTranenet Technologies and Dlink, apart from VASK Engineering.

Care Soft is a globally recognised company offering business solutions, custom
software development, and temporary IT staff augmentation and outsourced quality
assurance services to an entire spectrum of organisations, ranging from Fortune
 500 companies to startups.

The company says it is committed to providing a bouquet of services to its
customers, including sales and services in India and the US. Care Soft also
offers staffing solutions, consulting services, outsourced human resource
services and a diverse range of products under different brand names.

Care Soft is also known for providing the best technology consulting services to
global organisations. They help clients establish and maintain stability in
India and the United Kingdom and also empower them to secure a dominant
 position, vis-à-vis their competition.

A leading player in the segment, Surevin provides call centre solutions,
e-business solutions and custom applications to clients across the globe. It
provides end-to-end BPO solutions, corporate training services that include both
soft skills and process trainings for call centres. Software development and
human resource consultation are other domains that the company is involved in.

In India, Surevin has placed a strong impetus on its operations in and around
Bhopal where it has been present for several years now.

Xtranet Technologies deals with integrated information and technology solutions
in several parts of the Central region. The company provides an exhaustive range
of IT infrastructure development services that include network feasibility
studies, network analysis and design, network implementation and coordination,
LAN and WAN based solutions, internet- and intranet-based solutions to name a
 few.

The company also has interests in optical fiber solutions and implementation and
VAN and VAD solutions, software solutions and BPO services.

In constant need of trained and experienced manpower to implement its
state-of-the-art solutions, these organisations naturally place a huge impetus
on the training of their employees, who are regularly provided with
opportunities to participate in training programmes, seminars and workshops.

D-Link provides connectivity to small, medium and large enterprise business
networks. The company designs, develops, and builds networks, broadband, digital
electronics, voice and data communications solutions for the digital home, small
office or home office and also small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs).

Sources say the company is on the constant lookout for knowledgeable, creative
and committed individuals hunting for a career in this industry.

With several youngsters already having opted for these careers that offer high
octane growth of their careers and also help them upgrade their skills
seamlessly, a cross-section of call centre and BPO employees in the State
capital say they have no qualms for maintaining high performance levels and add
that the adrenalin rush they get in pressure situations scores way over the drab
atmosphere at a Government office. As for job security, they add that it is only
the insecure that look for that, don't they?
