Dear Nutan Thakur,

I fully endorse the view express by you.

Friends,

Recently the Government of India has issued a notification about formation of a Drafting committee for the proposed Jan LokPal Bill. While, we from the Institute for Research and Documentation in Social Sciences (IRDS) welcome this measure in its fullest extent, we also strongly criticize the use of the words "five nominees of Shri Anna Hazare (including himself)" in the Notification.

This is because IRDS strongly feels that individuals, howsoever big they might be, cannot equated to stand in equality with the State. Secondly, giving authority and power in any individual to appoint and nominate persons on their will for the law-making process is an extremely dangerous act, which is fraught with great risks. Thirdly, these words give an outwardly feeling of nepotism and partisanship on the part of an individual even if the fact might be different.

As there are a very large number of issues in this Nation and different perspectives even on the same issue, IRDS feels that the same process might be adopted in future by any other individual or group of individuals to force the Government through various justified or unjustified means to take nominees of such individuals or groups for any law-making process.

Thus, we request the Central government to immediately amend the words "five nominees of Shri Anna Hazare (including himself)" with any such suitable words like "five representatives of Civil society" etc.

Today, this might seem to be irrelevant, what with the Anna Mania and Anna Fever, but tomorrow these things will have their own extremely dangerous consequences. And then the people will realize what is being said.

Thus, while keeping up the basic work, there is also a need to make the above mentioned amendments to ensure no misuse in future by scrupulous persons

Dr Nutan Thakur,
Secretary,
IRDS
