GOVT. IMPOSES UNDECLARED CENCORSHIP? DOORDARSHAN AND RADIO DISSIMANATE STALE NEWS    M K Gupta, Free Lance Journalist and Social activist.   13.8.2011 - It seems that the government has imposed an undeclared censorship on the national broadcasters.  While all the news channels are full with the news on the conditional permission given to use the Jai Prakash Narain Park for fast by Anna Hazare and tomorrow's newspapers are expected to follow suit, the so called independent Doordarshan (Hindi and English News after 8.00 p.m. and All India Radio (Hindi and English News at evening) have blacked out the news in their bulletins.  The top story in English news at 8.00 p.m on Doordarshan is, "Gujarat govt charge sheets IPS officer Rahul Sharma". Moreover, for the last so many days, both the broadcaster have refrained from giving such news or giving one-sided version by becoming government mouthpiece resorting to giving go by to the independent journalism, its code and ethics. EXAMPLE OF STALE NEWS ON DOORDARSHAN IN ITS EVENING BULLETIN ON 13.8.11.    Top story consists stale news as today top stories are, "Gujarat govt charge sheets IPS officer Rahul Sharma", (Court gave bail on 12th), "Rohit Nandan new AI Chief, Jadhav removed" and "President rejects mercy plea of Rajiv Gandhi's assassins."   STALE NEWS BY AIR IN ITS NEWS AT NINE BULLETIN ON 13.8.11   "Center seeks review of Supreme Court order banning Special Police Officers engaged in anti naxal operations" and "Gujarat Government charge sheets senior IPS officer Rahul Sharma for alleged misconduct".  If one go deeper and scan all the news, he may find some other stale news also. This is the reason that no body likes to view Doordarshan or listen to Akashvani or All India Radio and they have lost their popularity and credibility. The money being spent on both the national broadcaster is not giving value for money and the Prasar Bharati exists only for the name sake as it failed to bring independence. This is how the fundamental rights guaranteed in our Constitution are being honoured.  AIR and DD need urgent revamp.           No doubt, we are living in the democracy which is gradually becoming worse than dictatorship and we can smell that.
