[rti4empowerment] Total Deterioration Of Law And Order In Mumbai

Hello all,

This is extremely disturbing, and now all the more reason to invite the Indian Army to bring back some law and order in Mumbai, if not the State of Maharashtra

This is such an incredibly ludicrous situation in which so called leaders, MP, MLA, civic administration, police, are going all out to support anti socials, anti nationals, illegal elements, encouraging them, and going against the very people they are allegedly representing, and whose interests they are supposed to protect.

What kind of politicians are these, who are only openly opposing anti corruption laws.

Are these not anti nationals themselves.

How different are these people from those who are termed Naxalites, terrorists who disrupt the daily lives of the ordinary people, some of them indulge in violence, illegally occupy public spaces, openly oppose and flout existing laws, disregard and ignore Court orders, and show total disrespect to the People of the Republic of India, that is, Bharatha.

There are innocent residents who have been viciously attacked by illegal hawkers, Ulta Chor Kotwal Ko Daante, and the police have done absolutely nothing to bring these perpetrators, urban terrorists, to justice, even though they are well known anti nationals.

This report shows the increasing levels of corruption by those who have sworn to uphold the Constitution of the Republic of India, that is, Bharatha, as if all these days, it was not enough.

What else is left but to request the Indian Army to take over the administration till such time the situation is stabilised and the genuine, honest people who can give fair and just administration and good governance.

Thanqx.

Actress-turned-politician wakes up to hawker menace, party snubs her

By Ninad Siddhaye | Place: Mumbai | Agency: DNA

When actress-turned-politician Kunickaa Sadanand Lall decided to do something about the menace of illegal hawkers in her neighbourhood of Millat Nagar in Oshiwara, she expected her Congress party colleagues to support her.

However, she was shocked when none of the party office bearers or elected representatives came forward to help her take action against the hawkers.

"Illegal hawking began in our area sometime in March when a few vegetable vendors began sitting along the roadside. And despite the area (the interior road of Oshiwara and Lokhandwala area called Millat Nagar Bus Stop) being a "No Hawking" zone, illegal hawkers kept pouring in. That is when I was prompted to take action against them through my NGO Andheri-Versova Welfare Residents Association (AVRA)," the actress toldDNA.

After the anti-encroachment squad of the BMC were beaten and chased away in the absence of police presence, Kunickaa wrote a series of letters to the local MLA Baldev Khosa, civic officials as well as the local police of Oshiwara police station.

However, after a temporary eviction by the BMC, the hawkers returned and were actually helped by the MLA himself. "When I asked Khosa why he helped the hawkers return, he said they wanted him to "help" them earn a living. Moreover, after I raised the issue in a Janata Darbar of local MP Gurudas Kamat, I received few threatening calls. I was told to keep quiet about the hawkers issue if I wanted to be in the race to contest the forthcoming BMC elections," alleged Kunickaa. Assistant municipal commissioner Ramesh Pawar did not respond to repeated calls.

'Corrupt officers are appointing middlemen to do the job'

By Chaitraly Deshmukh | Place: Pune | Agency: DNA

The anti-corruption bureau (ACB) recently observed its vigilance awareness week from October 31-November 5. Deputy commissioner of police, incharge of the anti-corruption bureau (ACB) Pune unit, Sarang Awad (44) heads a team of 55 personnel working out of the Pune, Satara, Kolhapur, Sangli and Solapur offices. Awad told Chaitraly Deshmukh about the ACB plans to become even more effective in the coming months.

Has ACB benefited due to Anna Hazare's anti-corruption movement?
Yes, Anna's movement has helped. There is greater awareness about corrupt activities. We are benefiting from it. People are giving us more tip-offs. However, when it comes to conducting raids, we still need to train people as they are hesitant to stick their necks out.

Which government departments are being raided the most?
All the government departments and semi-government departments come under our jurisdiction. Police departments, class-III officers, land and revenue departments as well as public works departments are managed by our bureau. However in Sangli and Lonavla, we arrested school principals for accepting bribe from their staff.

Any new trends you have noticed?
People are getting a lot smarter now. We noticed that corrupt officers are appointing middlemen or chartered accountants to do their dirty job.

Has the name of ACB ever been misused?
Yes, in some cases people have misused the ACB. They use our names to threaten the culprits and personally settle their disputes by accepting money.

What are your short-term plans?
We have started spying and collecting data on those public servants whom we suspect. Secondly, we are putting our staff through refresher training programmes in order to increase the conviction rate. We also make our staff study older cases and learn from them.

Even during the anti-corruption week that we just celebrated, we put up posters and conducted awareness seminars in the government offices. Accepting or giving bribe is an offence. I urge DNA readers to contact us on 020-2613 2802 / 2612 2134, if they come across any corrupt practices in the government offices.
