Bangalore: Karnataka Information Commissioner H N Krishna on Thursday resigned from his post following allegations of irregularities in the Karnataka Administrative Service (KAS) recruitment scam. He tendered his resignation to governor H R Bhardwaj. The Times of India, in its September 26 edition, had reported these irregularities.

Belonging to the Vokkaliga community, Krishna was accused of recruiting overaged persons, persons who lied about their reservation status, besides largescale irregularities in awarding marks and ranks to candidates belonging to a particular community. This was done while making appointments to thousands of Group A and B posts as member and chairman of Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) during examinations held in 1998, 1999 and 2004. He is also alleged to have forcibly taken the signature of Allah Baksh, a meritorious candidate, and tried to prevent him from appearing for a personality test in December 2005.

After his retirement, the Kumaraswamy government appointed him as Karnataka information commissioner. He held on to the post despite police filing criminal charges against him.
