[rti4empowerment] Re: Emailing: Malegaon Additional DC burnt alive by oil mafia - India News - IBNLive

Friends,

This is a shocking incidents. Reported on republic day, does this not indicate the how fragile our democratic republic is?

Typically, public officials are scared to tackle the goons. Our tribute to late Shri Yeshwant Sonawane, for his dedication to duty, leading to supreme sacrifice. He has set an example of courage and conviction.

RTI activists in New Delhi found that kerosene meant for BPL finds it way from ration shops to petrol pumps, for adulterating petrol and diesel. Officers dealing with public distribution system are not so naive that they are not aware of this racket. Either they join the racket to collect their hafta (or whatever) or pretend that they do not know of it. This is one of the examples of institutionalized corruption.

How many officers are willing to grapple with Popat Shinde and others law-breakers, who are deeply involved in rackets which brings in easy money to them? What protection does the "system" offer to such honest and dedicated officers? These difficult questions must be answered, as many politicians and senior officers may be beneficiary of institutionalized corruption.

President of India, in her republic day eve speech said yesterday that corruption is major hurdle to development and good governance. All of us know it-- what are the solutions?
