RTI activists of Uttar Pradesh, under the aegis of Yaishwaryaj Seva
Sansthan have sent a memorandum to Governor, Chief Minister and Chief
Secretary of Uttar Pradesh with their sole demand of appointing
information commissioners on eight vacant posts in Uttar Pradesh
Information Commission.

They demanded that appointments should be made while ensuring in
'letter & spirit' the compliance of orders dated 15-04-13 of Hon'ble
High Court Lucknow Bench passed in MISC. BENCH No. - 2709 of 2013 and
dated 16-04-13 of Hon'ble Supreme Court of India passed in R.P.(C)
Nos. 2309, 2675 AND SLP(C) NO. 27347 OF 2012.

Urvashi Sharma, Secretary of Lucknow-based NGO Yaishwaryaj Seva
Sansthan said: "On 15-04-13, Hon'ble High Court Allahabad Lucknow
Bench passed an order in case no. MISC. BENCH No. - 2709 of 2013 and
directed the state government to appoint information commissioners on
eight vacant posts within three months."

"On 16-04-13, Hon'ble Supreme Court of India passed an order in
R.P.(C) Nos. 2309, 2675 AND SLP(C) NO. 27347 OF 2012 and stayed
certain parts of his earlier order passed in Namit Sharma's case,
thereby removing all hurdles in the path of appointment process of
info-commissioners. So UP government should immediately initiate the
process of appointment of info-commissioners."

Activists had sent both court orders to the authorities for compliance
at their end.
