[rti4empowerment] Petition against ban on Press Meet, compensation sought

Petition against ban on Press Meet, compensation sought

I today filed a petition in Hon'ble CAT, Lucknow Bench regarding alleged denial of Fundamental rights.

As per petition, Rule 17 of All India Services (Conduct) Rules says that every IPS officer can vindicate his position in an official matter through Press after seeking State government permission but this permission will will be deemed after 12 weeks of seeking permission.

The petition says that permission was sought on 28 October 2012 in a case where the officer felt he got falsely implicated in an Arms licence case as SP Gonda. A Press Meet was organized on 18 January 2013 after expiry of mandatory 12 weeks but the Meet was stopped a day before.

Calling this act an infringement of Fundamental Right of freedom of expression, compensation has been sought along with action against those who passed it.

The petition is an endeavour towards accountability in governance. It is not only a Service petition and some of you might appreciate it for the wider issues involved here.

Here is a copy of the Petition, for kind perusal and expert comment please-
