Unlike his predecessors, Patnaik will now be paying periodical visits to each police station to check on his subordinates and ensure basic policing. The visits will occur every alternate day; the general public and the media will be allowed to meet him at the police station without any restraint
At a time when police- gangster nexus, cases of corruption, molestation and even rape have come to the fore in the police force, Mumbai Police Commissioner, Arup Patnaik, has decided to tighten the noose on his officers.
Unlike his predecessors, Patnaik will now be paying periodical visits to each police station to check on his subordinates and ensure basic policing. These visits will take place every alternate day and the general public as well as the media will be allowed to meet Patnaik at the police station, without any restraint.
" The drive commenced on Monday with the Oshiwara police station, where some lapses were jotted down by the Commissioner in his diary and prompt action was taken. These visits will regularly take place in the evening and the particular police station will be intimated on wireless, about the same." said, an IPS officer close to Patnaik.
According to the officer, the meeting would include the Divisional Assistant Commissioner of Police, all inspectors, including the senior inspector and the crime team, who will have to line up with their papers, before Patnaik arrives at the police station.
" The station diary, attendance, status of the investigations into current cases, the prevalent crime in the police stations purview and the strategies chalked out to discussed at the meeting.
Every error will be noted by the Commissioner in his diary, which shall then be rectified," he added.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police will not be a part of the meeting however he/ she would be kept on standby, in case a major lapse is found in the functioning of the police station.
As every citizen is not able to pay a visit to the Commissioners office, Patnaik will listen to the grievances of the general public at the police station and tackle the queries put forth by the media.
