Friends,

A time seems to have when even the organizing committee of respected competitive examinations are not keeping their words and they digress from their own own syllabus blatantly. This happened once again in the respected CLAT examination. Tanaya, my daughter, a student of class XII in Lucknow and a CLAT aspirant, filed a Writ Petition No 2965/2012 in the Allahabad High Court, Lucknow Bench against this Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) conducted by National Law University, Jodhpur. I attach a copy of the Writ Petition for your kind perusal.

There are two main grounds for filing this Writ Petition. The first is that the organizing Institute, NLU Jodhpur had said that General Knowledge section will only test students on their knowledge of current affairs, i.e., matters featuring in the mainstream media between March 2011 and March 2012. Similarly for Legal Aptitude it said that this section will test students only on legal aptitude and not any prior knowledge of law or legal concepts. If a legal term is used it will be explained in the question itself. But in contradiction to what the organizing Institution said, at least 22-25 sections in the GK section came much beyond the current affairs period. Similarly there were many legal terms in legal aptitude section that was not defined.

Since CLAT organizing Committee has violated its own guidelines and syllabus, hence Tanaya has prayed to cancel this CLAT examination and to take a fresh examination.
The case came for hearing today (24 May 2012) before the bench of Justice S S Chauhan. The High Court has asked Tanaya's Counsel to send FAX message to the opposite party informing about the filing of the writ petition and also requesting for appointment of a lawyer to represent the opposite party in this Court.
Looking at the urgency of the matter, it fixed the next date of hearing on 28 May. Interestingly it is on 28th May that CLAT results are expected.

Happening of such things don't seem to augur well for all of us.
