[rti4empowerment] Olympic Association Suspension PIL- HC Order

Olympic Association PIL- Seek instructions from Govt

In the PIL filed by me and wife Nutan to ensure compliance of the directions issued by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to Indian Olympic Association (IOA),   Allahabad High Court, Lucknow bench directed the Union of India Counsel to obtain instructions from the Government.

The Bench of Justice Imtiyaz Murtaza and Justice Vishnu Chandra Gupta directed the case, which is urgent in nature, to be listed in the next week.

As per the PIL, IOC suspended IOA fin December 2012 for having failed to comply with the directions to suitably amend its Constitution for introducing integrity and ethics along with good governance in sports. This suspension has many ill effects including ban from participation in Olympics.

Again during its meeting in Buenos Aires on 04 September, IOC decided that if IOA amends its constitution by 31 October to incorporate the clause that any person against whom charge has been framed in a law court will get removed as an office-bearer, its suspension will be revoked.

We have said that participation in Olympics is associated with not only sports but is also linked with the sentiments of the entire Nation and also has its ramifications in international diplomacy and international prestige of a Nation. At the same time, the directions issued by IOC are for the benefit of Indian sports because it will put a ban on tainted officials. Hence, we have prayed that the Sports Ministry, Government of India shall use its authority to ensure that IOA complies with the IOA directions in the prescribed period so that the ill-effects of suspension get ended.
