RBI enquires into allegation against HSBC, further action possible

It comes as a good news in fight against corruption that the Department of Banking Supervision, Reserve Bank of India has enquired into the complaint presented by me and wife Ms Nutan to the Governor, RBI about allegations made by AAP Convener Sri Arvind Kejriwal.  This matter was examined during the Annual Financial Inspection (AFI) of HSBC for year 2012. RBI shall take any further action against HSBC on the basis of the observations made during AFI by Principal Inspecting Officer.

RBI gave this information in a RTI query though they have refused to share the AFI findings in the economic interest of HSBC.

Sri Kejriwal's allegations included HSBC facilitating in getting black money stashed in Swiss Banks and brazenly running a hawala racket in India, encouraging tax evasion. Based on these allegations, we had asked RBI to enquire into the allegations and cancel grant of licence under section 22(4) of the Banking regulations Act 1949, if found true.  Ms Seema Mehta, Chief Nodal Officer, HSBC, through her letter dated 20 December 2012, had said that the Bank takes compliance with the law very seriously.

Hope something really positive comes out of this endeavaour.
