Hubli: Fed up with irregularities in the appointment of History lecturers by the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) and to protest against alleged injustice meted out to him in the appointment process, Ambanna M Davalar of Sindagi taluk in Bijapur returned his original degree certificate to the governor by SpeedPost on Monday.
Ambanna, currently a bus conductor in Sindagi depot, has been fighting against irregularities in appointment for the past few years. He also submitted memoranda to the chief minister, all leaders and the governor. He says he wasn't appointed to the post though he was qualified as per KPSC norms. He finished his BA in second class and passed MA in history and archaeology, Karnatak University, Dharwad, in first class securing 60% in 1993. He was awarded his doctorate in Dec 2002 by the same university.
KPSC invited applications for 180 history lecturers from those who completed, MA with MPhil, PhD or passed SLET or NET. He applied for the post under Category 1. "Though I was qualified to be a lecturer, I wasn't appointed," Davalar told TOI.
"I also got information through the Right to Information Act Act and found there were irregularities in the appointment process. When no action was taken, I felt my degrees are of no value and decided to return my certificates to the governor who is the chancellor of the university," he added.
"A CBI or CoD inquiry should be ordered into irregularities. The governor should accept my certificates or the government should appoint me as lecturer after acting against those who were appointed based on fake certificates," he added.
