[rti4empowerment] A choice for Progress - Happy 62nd Republic Day - Editorial and images

Good day Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Its Thursday, January 26th 2012

Click for Mumbai, India Forecast

Another Republic Day comes around and the customary
display of Patriotism
in the manner of unfurling the tricolour
and loudspeaker rendition of Vande Mataram fills the air :-?
I myself was part of that group and frankly, its not that I am
not a part of it now, only that the celebration is muted in mind.

Probably a sombreness has taken the place of gaiety, A sombreness
brought on by disillusionment(?) or in coming face to face with our
limitations as humans in effecting a change :-?

I like to look upon it as progress
Progress on the inner developement
I now face my demons and only when I take that step
do I put myself in a position to tackle it.
Disillusionment is part of growth
Conflict precedes clarity like the darkest hour before Dawn.

Couple of years back a I wrote an editorial on Republic day
I am producing that here verbatim because it says something
that I had lost track of and which is a vital part in any progress,
whether on an individual level or societal

Here you go

Editorial written on 26th January 2009

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
As per the survey made by TV9 Kannada, popularly recognized as one
of the leading News channel in India, Most Indians have no idea as
to why we celebrate Republic day every year on January 26th.
Well, Here is the reason:
Even after getting Independence on August 15th 1947,
 Government of India Act-1935 was governing force in the nation.
But on January 26th 1950, Constitution of India came into force
as the governing guideline. So in order to honour this memory
we celebrate Republic day on January 26th every year.
That's it ..
Well, that's about the important part .. but not the whole story
What?? You want more .. ??
What are you willing to do for it??
How about actually searching the net for it ??
No time??
Well, then it can't be that important to you really ...
There is immense wisdom in that otherwise insulting allusion
If you are willing to look for that at least ..
We make time for what we consider as important ..
Well then,
What is imporatnt then??
Your perception of your needs ..
(not the actual need, but your perception)
How does knowing what is important help us ??
Well, Ever wonder why most people are unhappy in their jobs?? :-?
Its because they work for someone else ...
Someone else who is not more important to them than ...???
.
.
.
.
..
Take a guess ...
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
Themselves of course ..
At the root, our needs are driven by primal instincts
And not all of us are spiritually evolved enough to take a step back
and evaluate a situation before deciding on the merits of the choices offered ..
So we go by what we call basic instinct ..
No, not the movie ..
Hence the desire in many to do business or rather what drives '
many to leave the security of a job and do business ..
The independance ..
the flexibility to work as long as we want
(which frequently is more than what we were willing to work in our jobs)
And yet we do it ..
why??
Coz' we enjoy doing it ... ??
Maybe ... but more because we are doing it for ourselves
And that makes it enjoyable and doable over a long period of time
Which should in a way therefore throw some light on the state of the nation
I mean, if the above survey has any weight,
Most of us don't consider working for the nation important enough ....
You find that insulting
or
don't agree???
Well, That's not the point ...
My point is if that is true, you know where the reason lies
And if the above is not true in your case, then you are probably too busy
working for the nation to bother about what others are doing for the nation ...
in which case
CONGRATULATIONS
and Its an honour to know you B-)
Nations survive because of silent workers like you
On the 62nd anniversary of India's republic day,
I wish you success in your endeavour for the nation
