I along with wife Nutan have today filed a PIL against the grant of certification of exhibition by the Central Board of Film Certification, (Censor Board) to "Ram Lila" under the Cinematographers Act 1952, to be released on 15 November.
As per the PIL, Sri Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film has been given the name Ram Lila while it has nothing to do with this pious, sanctimonious, Hindu religious event. Instead the film calls itself Goliyon ki Raaslila (Raas Lila of bullets). The official trailer of the film shows abusive language and intimate scenes which are far away from the religious connotations of this word , which insults and offends the religious sentiments of Hindus.
We have said that Sri Bhansali has deliberately and maliciously given such a title to his film, knowing fully well that he is insulting to the Hindus and thus it being an offence under section 295A, IPC, the certificate granted to Ram Leela is against section 5B of the Cinematographer's Act. Hence, we have prayed for quashing of the certificate and stopping the public exhibition of the film.

The PIL also tries to raise many issues related with the basic concept of religion, religious sentiments and the way we need to adopt the same kind of sensitivity towards all religions/religious sentiments, instead of possibly ignoring some religious sentiments in the name of its being "more tolerant and catholic" than others, which have the potential of leading to dangerous portents in future.
