Dear Friends,
In the year 2005, when the RTI act was passed in order for the citizens to get access to the information held by the government offices, it was indeed a milestone in the fight towards bringing transparency and accoutability in the administration and fight against corruption. Since then there has been a strong movement all over the country from various organisations, acivists and common man. There have been success stories, acheivements and at the same time an attempt by various political organisations and the corrupt practices to weaken the act. There has not been much awareness among the common man . The government has completely failed in implemetning the Act and specifically section 4.1(a) and 4.1(b) Also we have not so far been able to work togeher with a sense of unity. In this journey spanning over eight years, there is a need for us to work under a single banner and to strengthen the act, to celebrate our acheivements, forming a roadmap for the days to come and to create awareness among the General Public and holding the government officers responsible and accountable on various fronts .
The RTI Activists' Association Gulbarga has decided to organise State Level RTI Conference here in Gulbarga in this regard.
Agenda of the Conference are as follows.
1) Presentation on the act, the journey so far and what needs to be done in the future.
2) Discussion with the activists on implementation of the act to the fullest.
3) Workshop on the act for the common man/ up-coming activists.
4) Discussion on the topic Save Honest officers and Activists.
4) Press conference and press release to propagate the activities , show of strength , and to spread the word among the public.
We are plannig to hold the two day conference. The process of finalising the agenda , schedule venue etc is on and suggestions are invited from all the friends and acitvists. Kindly get back to us with your valuable views and suggestions. And also kindly forward this to all the activists.
