Riots in Mumbai & Supreme Court Judgment on Police Reforms:
--Is it time for Supreme Court of India to force States implement its judgement on Police Reforms:----Mumbai : Protest by Raza Academy on Sunday August 11, 2012 – Do we need to take note & do something about it or let it go as one more sensational news item ? ( compilation of various newspaper articles, photos)
1) Women Cops molested by Rioters ( DNA)
2) A few of the rioters had stolen police weapon and fired in the air and at the police( DNA )
3) CST (VT) station was shut down. ( source HT ) When was the last time this station was shutdown ? Was it Kasab who did that earlier ?
4) Cricket pitches ( 12 – 13 ) in Azad Maidan are damaged extensively (Source Dainik Sakal)
5) 45 police personnel injured;49 vehicles damaged ( Daink Sakal)
6) Most of the protestors were aged between 15 to 25 ( Source Dainik Sakal)
7) 26/ 11 memorial destroyed by protestors ( caught on camera the photo of the person destroying) ( DNA)
8) Cameraman of Daink Sakal grievously injured , attempts were made to throw him inside a burning police vehicle by protestors. ( Source Daink Sakal)
9) He was saved only because he wore a cap given to him ( Source Daink Sakal)
10) Railway motormen refused to ply trains till police protection was given to them
11) Protestors misbehaved with Rail passengers inside the raliway stations / trains ( Source Dainik Sakal)
12) HT shows a photo of an injured police officer , lying on road ; also a protestor pulling a police person holding his collar
13) HT photo shows a protestor holding stone, showing it as threat
14) Each photo journalist was chased , attacked b 25 men. ( Source HT)
15) Bikes seized: Police have seized 200 motorcycles which allegedly belonged to protestors , they hope to trap the culprits with the help of these bikes. ( Source HT)
16) Guns missing : One self loading rifle and two pistols are missing ( Source HT)
Questions
1) The reason for so many vehicles burning so soon & suddenly ; was petrol from motorcycles used ( as per a news item)
2) Where did the protestors get so many stones from ?
3) What next ? As usual a high level enquiry committee which will take years & years to give its report ?
Will the Chief justice Bombay High Court / Chief Justice of India intervene ? The incident happened just 5 minutes away from Bombay High court / 5 minutes away from Office of the Commissioner of Police / 10 Minutes away from Mantralaya./ 10 minutes away from Maharashtra Legislative Council.
Looks like this is a very serious issue & cannot be left to deal with by our incompetent Politicians.
SC is not enforcing its power to force states to implement its police reforms judgment. Will it do it now or let the country be ruled by these kind of rowdy mobs ?
