Complaint against smoking in Public place (Jawahar Bhawan)
Today I have sent a complaint to ADG, Technical Services against three persons from Ernst and Young unit presently working in his office, for smoking in public place.
When I had asked these people why they are smoking in public place, they said that they did not think they were doing anything wrong, nor did they think it was illegal. On the contrary section 4 of Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Act, 2003 specifically prohibits smoking in public place and section 21 provides a penalty of Rs. 200 after summary trial.
Hence, I have requested ADG, Technical Services as Head of his office to get a preliminary enquiry conducted in this matter and to send a formal complaint to the competent authority. I have also requested Dr S P Bhaskar, State Nodal Officer, State Tobacco Control and Dr U N Rai, Nodal Officer, District Tobacco Control cell, Lucknow to take this instance in its larger perspective so as to act against all such cases of smoking in public places.
The purpose of the exercise is primarily for contributing my bit to public awareness.
