Police Media Interface It seems that the Indian Police has finally started taking media seriously so as to understand its finer nuances. This must be more true for the Senior IPS officers as can be seen from the Panel Discussion being organized by the National Police Academy, Hyderabad on 04 June 2011 from 10 AM to 1 PM. The topic of the discussion is "Police Media Interface- Problems and Perspectives".
The speakers who shall be presenting their views on this topic are Swapan Dasputa, the eminent columnist, Esther Kar, an senior officer of the Indian Information service and Bhupendra Choubey, National Bureau Chief of CNN-IBN.
IPS officers belonging to 1991 to 1995 batch from various Cadres and Central Police Organizations shall take part in the discussion.
I personally find it a welcome move because today the importance of media has increased a lot and there is also a great need for police to understand this and to provide information to the public as fast and as truthfully as possible. An understanding of proper Police Media relations is very-very important for this.
But again my understanding of this topic is that it will be really useful only when both the Police and Media are truthful and honest not only to each other but also general public. The more they are truthful, the better will be the results and also the real purpose of both these organizations to serve the public will be really achieved.
